{Product Focus} More New Fabrics To Brighten Your Day

Thats what these fabrics did when they arrived, brightened what has been a pretty dreary, wet, grey weekend.  Some new pin spot fabrics arrived and I love the colours, they are really fresh and bright.  Think my favourite is the sunflower, but seeing as my favourite colour is yellow thats not a surprise.  It reminds me of a much absent sun at the moment!!

Black
Sunflower - My favourite!
Rose
Mocha
The Mocha is a lovely colour - very grown up!  Which is your favourite?  Do you have a favourite colour you like working with??

p.s. Keep a lookout on our blog as we'll have some exciting news that may interest you if you are a designer/maker.

{Product Focus} Fresh Fabrics For April

Hello and welcome to The Sewing Boutique Blog.  I hope you are all well!

April has to be one of my favourite times of year.  Aside from the fact its the month of my youngest daughters birthday (she'll be two tomorrow!!) its (normally) a warm sunny month, the start of a new season, new beginnings etc.  All very inspiring!

I've been so inspired picking new fabrics for the shop this month.  Here are just a few....

A nautical theme is always good for summer makes!

As promised, union jack fabric for any Jubilee projects

Gorgeous floral print

To add to our lovely range of boys fabric - beep beep!!

Such a popular fabric, vintage teapots now comes in lipstick pink
There are more to come in April too, including lots of polka dot fabric - who doesnt love polka dots?!

Would love to see what you're working on this month?!

{Product Focus} Cover Button Tool - Fab Little Invention!

If its one thing that seems to catch peoples eye at the craft fairs (apart from the spotty buttons that look like sweets!) its the cover button tool.  Mainly, the first question is "What on earth is that?" followed by "Ooooh how does it work".

Looks like an odd contraption but trust me, its so much fun!
So, what do you do with your fabric scraps?  Do you feel guilty throwing out even the smallest scrap?  Do you think that you could do something with it?  Well, Im very pleased to say, this will help!  It comes with a guide as to the size of fabric to cut depending on the size of the button you want to make (we currently stock 11mm and 19mm cover buttons).

The end result looks a little bit like this...

Be warned, however, it is addictive!  Once you start button making, its hard to stop.  However, now there is no excuse not to have the perfect button for every project :)

All The Fun Of the (Craft) Fair

Hello Fellow Crafty/Bloggy People

As well as launching the online shop and all the busy-ness of the last six weeks, we've attended quite a few fairs too!  I love attending craft fairs.  I love meeting people, talking about crafts be it sewing or cardmaking or painting.  I find craft fairs attract lots of crafty people.

Me at my stall at a recent event, looking rather happy I have to say!
We've got all our events listed on the events page of the site - you can take a look here!

Oooooh so many colours!
One of the biggest events we will be attending is the Cardiff City Crafty and Hobby Show in May.  More information can be found here, but it looks like its going to be huge!  We'll be having a stand with the suppliers but there will also be many crafter stands there that Im looking forward to browsing around.  If you ask me (not that Im biased!) its one not to be missed.

We'll be getting in lots of lovely new fabrics specifically for this event, so if you can get to Cardiff by train, plane, car, donkey, whatever, be sure to come say hi!

Attending lots of events, I've learnt a few things....dont eat lunch or I wont manage a cupcake, take LOTS of change as your first customer will always give you a note, take some sort of pouch for all said change as taking a money box to the toilet is a pain in the bum!!  Following all this, I came up with this little lovely....

Its a money/tape measure/scissors pouch - or otherwise know as a vendors apron!!  So simple to do and so handy!  Tutorial coming soon....
